Mid-Atlantic Hearth, Patio & Barbecue Association (MAHPBA) is an affiliate of the Hearth, Patio & Barbecue Association (formerly Hearth Products Association). MAHPBA was formed in October, 1999 and includes the states of Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey and Pennsylvania, as well as the District of Columbia. In 2002, with the merger of the Barbecue Industry Association into HPA, we became the Mid-Atlantic Hearth, Patio & Barbecue Association.

2010 Annual Meeting is a Huge Hit! |

If you missed the 2010 Annual Meeting in Lancaster, PA last month, you really missed out on a great event. Everybody is talking about what a welcome change it was to experience the upbeat attitudes of members and sponsors alike. It seems we may have turned a corner and be starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel. The general atmosphere both days was one of renewed enthusiasm for what a great industry we are all a part of.

HPBA is very sad to report the death of William J. "Pat" Magnotti on July 5th in Pittsburgh, PA at the age of 69. Pat was the first president, along with Mick Maier, of the Wood Heating Alliance (WHA) in 1980, the founding organization of the Hearth, Patio & Barbecue Association.

The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) issued a final rule, published April 16th, that regulates the energy efficiency of residential heaters, residential water heaters, pool heaters, and other gas appliances. This rule will have a significant impact on your business.

There has been some recent chatter about the delay in enforcement from the EPA on the lead paint rule. The Senate has pressured the EPA and there is an apparent memorandum from the EPA regarding this situation. The link for such, however, has been disabled so I have my concerns.
