There has been some recent chatter about the delay in enforcement from the EPA on the lead paint rule. The Senate has pressured the EPA and there is an apparent memorandum from the EPA regarding this situation. The link for such, however, has been disabled so I have my concerns.
http://www.epa.gov/lead/pubs/renovation.htm Is still our source for information. There have been no updates regarding this memorandum or any delays in enforcement as of yet. For now, I recommend if you do not have the cert, get it. IF and when more information becomes available, I will forward it to the membership promptly.
Here is the information I have been able to find on some state senate and legislative sites, please remember , this has not been confirmed as of yet by the EPA as far as we are concerned:
EPA has acknowledged the need for additional time for renovation firms and workers to become trained and certified under the rule. The specific delays are: * Until October 1, 2010, EPA will not take enforcement action for violations of the RRP Rule's firm certification requirement. * For violations of the RRP Rule's renovation worker certification requirement, EPA will not enforce against individual renovation workers if the person has applied to enroll in, or has enrolled in, by not later than September 30, 2010, a certified renovator class to train contractors in practices necessary for compliance with the final rules. Renovators must complete the training by December 31, 2010.
